I realize that to some of you this is no biggie. You see this weather all the time. I used to be one of those people. When I was in Florida it was normal to reach 100+ several days in a row.

But when you walk to work...100 degrees is killer. SERIOUSLY KILLER. Back sweat, butt sweat, arm sweat, brow sweat. If its a body part then it sweats when you walk to work in 100 degree weather.

Today I wanted to lay down on the sidewalk and just die. But I was afraid that I would burn to death instead and that seemed like a sad way to go. :(

I hate weather. Yep...I said it. I hate it.

Its LUSH life baby...

Yesterday was A's birthday party. When I say party, I really just mean dinner and drinking. :)

A is the girl who has everything. She buys what she likes and does it often. I love this about her! So what does a friend buy for the girl who has everything?! Soap.

Not just any ordianary soap though. Who would just buy someone a bar of Lever 2000. I prefer not to think of all her 2000 body parts actually. Nope. Lush soap.

There is something about this store that makes me happy. Genuinely happy. Giddy almost.

With names like Flying Fox for one of my fave shower gels, Lush immediately becomes cool. Check out the description of what normally would be some boring shower gel.

I *Am* The Knotty Girl...But Am I Really Knotty?!

Of course I am! I'm a knotty knitter. Hello?! Don't be gross.

This is my latest little knitting jewel.


Cute little strawberry hat, huh? It only took me a night to do it, but I'm still amazed at how small it is. It scares me to imagine something so small really fits in there. This will be going to my friend Mindy and their cutie baby to be. :)

Its also possible that I am knotty outside of knitting. I'm not saying if that is true or false, but I will give you this photo. You decide!

Its official. I've become a nut over my dog. I mean, I have known this for years now, but the lady down the street gave me that "look" that said she thinks I drink on a regular basis and I'm substituting my dog for a child in my life.

It was a gift from my mom and dad! Seriously?! How cute is that. Anyway, I had him wearing it the other day when I was out walking him. I'm not sure where that lady thought Korky should wear his shirt if it wasn't when we were walking. hello?! Read the shirt.

*Raising my glass of wine!* So cheers to all the doggie mamas out there, crazy dog ladies, and those that drink on a regular basis. ROCK ON!

I have so much going on this weekend that I feel like I am going to bust from all the excitement!

Friday:
Due to me being quite new in Boston, I'm still easily excited by just walking through the Fenway area around game time. Fortunately for me my work is close by (and when I say close I mean CLOSE) so I'm walking over to meet friends for lunch and watch people get ready for the game. GO SOX!

Tomorrow night I will be visiting the MFA to see a great looking exhibit... David Hockney Exhibit. I'm really looking forward to it! I did a bit of research on some other exhibits that are coming my way and realized that I would be visiting the MFA at least three more times in the next few months so after tomorrow evening I will be a card carrying MFA member. Can I put that on my resume? Can I check that off on my To Do list for becoming adult? Can I get a YEEHAW for art in my life?

Saturday:
Quite possibly this could be one of the better days of my year! During the day I will be galavanting down to see Wicked the Musical.

By far one of the better shows I have seen and it makes me all giddy inside. I've been such a fan of Gregory Maguire, who wrote Wicked, so seeing one of my favorite books in live action is just a dream come true!

But wait! It gets better...
I'm going to see my current favorite band that night! Of course No Doubt will FOREVER be my favorite band, but really...how many times do they perform at a smelly club and only charge $10 ($8 if you buy early!) to get in?!

The*KIN is a band that I discovered when I first moved to Boston. My dad was visiting and helping me get adjusted to the area so we decided to walk along Newbury Street. As we came to the end of the street we noticed a small crowd in front of Rugby by Polo. Speaking of Rugby...I don't understand that store. They really want me to wear a shirt that looks like a Rugby jersey and expect people to think that I wear it because I'm cool and not because I'm too lazy to change out of my jersey?! Hmm...

Anyway, there was a band in front of this store playing music that I just immeidately fell in love with. IN LOVE! My dad even liked it and didn't crack one comment about them. That is saying a lot!

So my friends and I will be heading out to see them perform. Here is hoping that the lead singer takes notice and I walk away with not only hearing great music but a new boyfriend? EH...ok maybe not so much.

Sunday:
Sunday is Easter. Enough said. Korky and I will be spending our day participating in a easter egg hunt for doggies. :)

Monday:
This is a holiday for me. Its not an Easter holiday. Not a Passover holiday. But Patirots Day. Its a made up holiday for Boston that just gives people the opportunity to have the day off and support the Boston Marathon runners.

Can I just say that I admire anyone who can run a marathon! Seriously...I find myself complaining about walking in heels sometimes. These people run for 26 miles and I complain about walking two steps with point toed shoes. Sigh...


So you can see that my weekend is slammed! Keep fingers crossed for good weather, a new camera on Saturday, and maybe a bit of knitting too!

43 Things...

While fartin' around the web I came across this site...

43 Things

Basically you list 43 things you want to do with your life. From there it creates a little online list that you update as you do them. Other people can also use the things you have entered to add to their lists.

Seems like a pretty interesting idea, right?

Well its driving me nuts. I mean 43 things? Why 43? Why not 45? Why not 10? Hell...why not 77?

Another thing...why do I want reminders about the things that I have yet to accomplish. I'm fully aware of the things I haven't accomplished or done in my life. Do I really need more reminders other than the one where I wake up everyday and realize taht I have yet to become organized or haven't yet packed up my winter clothing? Now, not only do I have that friendly reminder in my head I also have a great email reminder from this 43 things site.

The last thing and honestly, the part that bugs me the most...people get to view your list or things you haven't done AND then they list that they have done it. Great. Just great! Not only have I yet to do it, but strangers get to rub it in my face that they are being busy and doing things I consider important. Yes, yes you are better than me.

Sigh...I only have 10 things on my list. Not 40. Not 43. Just 10. :)

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder...

Sorry for the delay in posts. I've been feeling a bit non-bloggish lately. I think its due to the lack of pictures which is directly related to the lack of my camera. Yes, I have pictures from my vacation but that is all thanks to my mom and the camera I bought her last Christmas. Good job Mom!

Ok so vacation news first...

I had so much fun! I headed back to my hometown of Pensacola for the first time in almost a year. Too long to be away from Florida if you ask me. Due to a certain website that is always on the news I have gotten in contact with people I was friends with in highschool and who I haven't seen in almost 8 years. Lots of fun!

I also had a chance to bond with my parent's puppy, Butch. The last time I saw him he was about 6 lbs. The fat boy is no longer able to fit in my purse now, but boy is he cute! He kept me company each and every time I participated in my favorite hobby...napping.

In knitting news...

I hate flying. However, what I hurt more than flying if flying AND being bored. So! I brought along my two bestfriends.

Yarn and iPod.



Do you know what that beautiful yarn is becoming?!

The Jaywalker Sock! by the wonderful designer of my lovely Odessa hat. Sigh...I have a knitting crush on her. :)

The yarn that screamed at me was the lovely Opal Sock yarn in Flamingo. It combines colors that make up my everyday wardrobe. Pinks, whites, browns, etc. A lovely mixture of colors that just make me happy when I look at them.

Socks have definately provided some new challenges for me.

DPNs. Wow. I've used these before but never this small (Size 2). Just looking at the package they came in made me nervous. I mean I got 5 of them for $4. I felt like I was robbing someone. Trying to manuever the yarn along the four needles was a bit tough too. I felt like I was missing thumbs (or maybe only had thumbs?) because the yarn slipped off the needles constantly or my needle fell out.

After a few inches though...I found my groove. Currently I'm turning the heel. Again, I'm running into troubles but thanks to the lovely ladies at my LYS I have seen the light and I'm on the right track again. The next photo I show will be my completed sock. Yes...I said sock, not socks. After I finish this one I have to convince myself to make another. Sigh...when will I learn?!


AND my last note...

Guess what tomorrow is?! Opening Day at Fenway Park! I realize that I've never been a big baseball person but its hard not to get excited when you are right in the thick of things.

The Knotty Girl's ghetto camera is no more.

Sigh...it died St. Patrick's night, along with all the photos on my memory card.

I've seen it coming for some time now, but it still hurts. Deeply. Now what I am going to do? Rely on my crappy camera phone?

So today is St. Patrick’s Day. Do you know what this holiday is all about? I know that I celebrate with green beer each year but there really is a meaning behind this great day!

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Scotland born Patrick traveled and converted the Irish people for over 40 years and used the shamrock to explain the trinity to the people of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is to celebrate not St. Patrick’s birth but actually his death and its considered a feast day in the Catholic religion. As many of you have read, the Catholic church has actually granted a dispensation for eating meat this Friday so that people can enjoy a classic feast of corned beef and cabbage. Now being the crappy Irish girl that I am, I don’t eat meat…ever. So I will celebrate with beer which is one of the major food groups in Ireland. What? Its true! ;)

In knitting news…
Normally I’m one of the laziest people in the world. But I’ve turned over a new leaf (or shamrock!)…at least for the last week or so.

In other knitting news…

Bobblicious is coming along swimmingly. Its about 50% done. I’m a little nervous about the whole seaming thing. Its not a lot to do on this project, but I suck in general at doing it. I decided to sign up for a class at my LYS to learn a little more about finishing so hopefully I can finish this project off nicely.

I made a super cute chunky neckwarmer the other day with some fun funky yarn I had hanging around. I even got to make a pit stop past a button store (who knew that stores existed for the sole purpose of selling buttons!). Pictures will be coming shortly.

Speaking of pictures…can I just tell you that I have the most ghetto camera in the world. GHETTO. I drop it constantly. I leave it in my purse. I leave it on the floor of my room. It rolls around my car floorboard. Do you know what happens when you treat your camera in such a naughty way?

That is the bottom of my camera where the battery cover was just hanging there for a bit (with duct tape over it). However, on Saturday I dropped it while I was climbing over a fence (another story) and this is the product of that mishap. No battery cover…just duct tape. How sad is that?!

Sigh...another one bites the dust. My childhood loves are dropping like flies. First MJ, then George Michael, and now Gunnar.

Apparently they are touring the star studded places like casinos and other hotels. Sigh...again.

Weekend of Comfort...

The Knotty Girl is on vacation this weekend. :) No...I didn't leave town, but my mom came into town! WHOO HOO!

The Knotty Girl and Mom are staying at a fabulous bed & breakfast. We have had great dinner's, fabulous entertainment, and now we are relaxing ALL DAY in the room. Its so great!

So I'll be MIA for the next day or so, but I'll be back refreshed, further along on Bobblicious, AND ready with some funny stories for M and I's adventures with 8 minute dating. HA!

Knotty Girl...OUT!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Attention! You may not know this but…I turned 26!  How great is that?! I’m officially in my late 20s. How great is that?!

Being new to town I wasn’t expecting much for my birthday. I mean its not that I was feeling sorry for myself, but more so that I was just prepared for what was to come…or not to come.

Last year’s birthday (25) was a blast. Looking back on that night, which people are still talking about, I knew it would be hard to ever top that night.

Imagine my surprise when my birthday rocked this year!  My friends A and M took me out the Saturday before my birthday. It started out innocently enough. We met up at a local restaurant/bar just to kick off the night. When I say we I mean me, A, M, and A’s husband, D. Super fun!

So we started out like this… *NOTE TO READER: I figured out how to do Thumbnails!*








After a few drinks and some bar hopping we started messing around and having a good laugh…




Oops! D had an accident!


And A was pissed that beer was all over her!


But M and I thought it was hysterical!



And we ended the night at a dinner with a cab ride home! Why are cabs so expensive either?!








Fortunately the night ended 10 minutes before the snow started to seriously start coming down. It was hard core too! Be prepared for a snow post next. I’m digging the photos lately. 

Seriously...the weekend was great. My friends went all out and we had a great time. But did the fun stop there?! NO!

My coworkers rock too! I know, how weird is that?! I’ve loved my coworkers at EVERY SINGLE job I’ve had. Its fabulous.

On Monday, my actual birthday, my coworkers took me to dinner and we proceeded to have a few margaritas. There is nothing better than Mexican food and margaritas. And no, I’m not kidding.

AND! They had this “cake” delivered to me…

Ok, so my cheesy post is over. Thank you for tolerating me. I realize that this is just a way for me to share photos and I appreciate you just sucking it up and dealing with it. 

Its a Gold Medal for the Knotty Girl!

Yippee! I officially have Odessa done AND I wore it today! I have completed my mission for the knitting olympics and I'm so pumped! I had a bit of a rocky start just because it took me a bit to get into the pattern. Normally I can follow a pattern pretty easily, but not this time. I don’t know if it was a form of my ADD kicking in or if I just wasn’t *ready* to knit it. Finally this past Friday I picked up Odessa and off I went! I finished this baby up Saturday night and closed it up Sunday morning. Good thing because it is “wicked cold” outside!

Ok, here it is…remember this is done via my camera phone so just pretend it looks great. As a matter of fact if you squint you can see how great it looks. OR get a friend to poke you in the eye and then look at the photo. I promise to get better photos…soon.


It kind of looks like a big loaf of bread in this photo. But don’t be fooled, my head really is THAT big and stretches it out quite a bit. HA!

I used a cheap yarn that I had in my stash so I’m looking forward to knitting this up again using the recommended yarn. Yep, you heard me right. I’m knitting this baby again because so many of my friends liked it. Hello?! Christmas presents!

I also have enough beads over to knit about 80 of these. Apparently I am not a good guesser when it comes to how many are in a jar kind of things. No wonder I never won those how many jelly beans in the jar contests. Hmpf.

Ruffles is still on the needles. I know I know. Its been forever, but I get a little bored with it and have to put it down for a bit. So instead I am introducing my needles to…Bobblicious! How fun does that sound?!



Bobblicious is a great shrug from the newest Knitty.com set of patterns and I just love it. BUT! As always I am having a problem. I make the bobble (which looks mighty fine if I do say so myself!) but once I’m done I’m missing a stitch. So I casted on 55 stitches and after the first bobble I have 54. 2 bobbles=53 stitches. CRAP! I commented on the fabulous designer of this shrug, Estee over at SweetPea Knits, and I’m hoping to get some advice from her soon as to how I can fix this.

So that concludes my Knotty Girl Update! I’m actually going to make a second post to tell you about the biggest news this month…I turned 26!!! Look out folks…I’m on a blogging role!

Friday is full of FUN!...

Ok, so tonight is the night that I officially become a card carrying tool. I am participating in the knitting Olympics and I am psyched! Seriously!

Here is the plan for tonight…

1.Stop by the bead store to pick up size 6 beads to go with the I plan on knitting up for the Olympics. I tried to buy some 6 mm beads for the hat at JoAnn’s the other day but I quickly realized that they are not nearly the same as “Size 6” and whatever that means. SOOO…in order to solve the problem of what beads to buy I am heading to the exact same store that
, the wonderful designer of Odessa, bought her beads from. Problem solved. Right kids?!

2.Once the beads have been bought (along with several other items I am sure I don’t need) then I will head down to my favorite bookstore/café for dinner. I understand that it freaks some people out that I go to eat by myself but get over it. ;) I do a lot of things by myself! Travel, go out to eat, museums, movies…etc. I’m an only child and I’m fully capable of enjoying my own company. Tonight the plan is to have a nice glass of wine and my favorite avocado and swiss melt sandwich. HELLO GOOD FOOD!
3.Get home in time to start knitting and watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I don’t know why but I love the Olympics. Its nice to see my country (and other countries) represented in such a cool forum. Plus, I like a lot of those x-games type of sports (snowboarding and such) so this is my chance to watch them and not look like a weirdo.

4.Last but not least, I will finish up the latest grouping of the OZ series that is on HBO on Demand. Love that series! SO sad that its gone. Is it wrong that I’m in love with Ryan the Irish kid who had his brother kill the husband of the woman he loved? Seriously. Love him.

5.Oh, but one more thing…I will pet Korky.  This is a given every night but Friday nights are a little more special because I stay up later than normal so that means more cuddle time with the pup.

Rules are silly...

HA! I need a good laugh today and that need was fulfilled by a link the the best thing I’ve seen on the internet in at least the last five minutes.

Law & Order: SVU Valentines

How great is that?!

Do you remember giving out Valentine’s Day cards as a kid? I do! It was the best part of my year (mostly because my birthday is the day before) because you got to make the fun paper mailbox to tape onto the front of your desk and then cards started to pour in.

One after another of “Be Mine”, “You are such a sweetie!” with of course the matching pack of sweeties candy attached to it, and of course the extra special Valentine’s that the fancy schmancy kids got for everyone that include a picture of the latest and greatest cartoon character. In my day if you got a Care Bears Valentine then that meant you were “in”. Count your blessings…it was going to be a good rest of the school year.

However, it has come to my attention that there are now ground rules for the ritual of handing out Valentine’s Day cards. What is that about? Hello! Make a paper envelop and stick a card in it. Right? Apparently not.

This is a direct quote from the directions I read on my friend’s fridge that her kids teacher sent home.

1. All Valentine’s Day cards must be passed on February 14th. No later and no sooner.
--Comment by TKG: Am I the only one that is thinking “duh!”. Why would I pass it out on the 12th? Does she think parents are going to sneak into the school and pass them out during the weekend.

2. All Valentine’s Day cards must be Valentine’s Day related.
--Comment by TKG: Really?! Now there is an idea.

3. In order to pass out cards you must have one for everyone. No more than one card a child as well.
--Comment by TKG: God forbid a child get more than one piece of paper with their name written by some kid’s they don’t really know mom.

4. No chocolate or other candies that can be ingested.
--Comment by TKG: As opposed to candy that is meant to be stared at? Gotta love those

I realize that most of these rules seem logical to most parents these days but really to me they seem silly and just not necessary. Just one of the many reasons I am mama to only my dog. HA!
In Knitting News…

I’ve joined a Knit Along…better known as a KAL. 

I am participating in the fabulous Knitting Olympics (see several posts below) and decided to join a KAL to get more involved in the online knitting community. So Odessa will now be knitted along with several other knitters in the Odessa KAL

The Knotty Girl is having a baby!...

Ok, well not a real baby but a baby sweater. I had ya worrying there, didn't I?!

I picked up Debbie Bliss's super cute The baby knits book



It seems every single woman I know is drinking the "get pregnant" water and they are having babies left and right! Its great for everyone. They get a baby and I get a chance to try my hand at knitting my first sweater.

I have decided on the baby raglan sweater made with the delicious Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.


Here is what I have so far!

I casted on last night and so far so good.The yarn is just yummy to work with and I'm excited to see how this will turn out!

Oh! And I've decided to make Odessa from Magknits.com for the Knitting Olympics. YIPPEE! Gold medal all the way baby!

Its a great hat and it will give me the opportunity to work with beads in my knitting. Its a bunch of firsts for me!!!
